<p>Egg sac is a silken case or capsule containing the eggs of a female spider.</p>

<p>Spiders lay their eggs in egg sacs. These sacs are made out of woven silk and help to protect the eggs and maintain the right humidity.</p>

<p>Spider egg sacs vary greatly in size, shape, and colour ( most of them are cream, brown, or white )<br></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-2.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-7573" srcset="https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-2.jpg 900w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-2-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-2-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-2-681x454.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>

<p><br>The egg shape depends on the spider species, some are:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>round ball,</li>

<li>a disc with a rounded part in the middle</li>

<li>squishy pillow</li>

<li>fluffy mass of silk</li>
</ul>

<p>The egg sac silk protects the eggs against physical damage and excessive drying, wetting or heating, as well as provides a shield against predators like ants and birds</p>

<p>One egg sac can have &nbsp;4 to 600&nbsp; eggs</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-3.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-7574" srcset="https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-3.jpg 900w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-3-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-3-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.singaporegeographic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Singapore-Geographic-Spider-Egg-Sac-3-681x454.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Singapore Geographic, Singapore Nature, Singapore Nature Photography</figcaption></figure>

<p></p>

<p>When the eggs hatch, they are known as <strong>spiderlings</strong>. These spiderlings are usually small and pale in colour.</p>

<p>The eggs of many spiders are glutinous and stick together allowing them to be laid in a continuous stream into the partly built silk egg sac</p>
