<p>This <strong>species of dragonfly</strong> is rare which occurs in a closed forest in the nature reserve of Singapore. Males are very attractive with blue, and red markings on the thorax and abdomen. Male. <p>Orthetrum glaucum is an Asian dragonfly species, common across much of tropical and subtropical Asia. The common name for this species is blue marsh hawk.&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthetrum_glaucum">Wikipedia</a></p>



<p>All dragonfly species have excellent vision. Each compound eye is comprised of several thousand elements known as&nbsp;<em>facets</em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>ommatidia</em>Dragonflies (and bees) have the largest compound eyes of any insect; each containing up to 30,000 facets, and the eyes cover most of the insect’s head <a href="https://about.me/grrlscientist" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>GrrlScientist</em></a></p>

<p>Scientific Name: Prodasineura humeralis<br><br>Prodasineura is a genus of damselflies in the family Protoneuridae. It contains the following species: Prodasineura abbreviata Lieftinck, 1951 Prodasineura auricolor Prodasineura autumnalis &#8211; Black &#8230;&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prodasineura">Wikipedia</a></p>



<p>This species belongs to the order Odonata, suborder Zygoptera and family Protoneuridae and was only<br>recorded for the first time in Singapore at the Chestnut Track area adjacent to Upper Peirce Reservoir as well as from<br>Lorong Asrama in Oct.2006 <a href="https://lkcnhm.nus.edu.sg/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/app/uploads/2017/06/2008nis51-53.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NUS Document</a></p>



<p>Spotted at Bukit Batok National Park, Bukit Gombak &#8211; Little Guilin.</p>

<p>The male Banded Skimmer is a dashing dragonfly which is predominantly black all over, with a contrasting white ‘waistband’ on its abdomen.</p>
