Clementi Forest

Clementi Forest lies directly between Clementi Road and the former Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) railway line on
Singapore Island NUS Department of Biological Sciences.
It is about 85 hectares in area, bounded by King Albert Park, Clementi Road, Old Holland-Ulu Pandan Road and the main Rail Corridor.
it used to be part of a rubber plantation during the 1920s to the 1940s, and it was abandoned during World War II.

Here are some tiny insect species that I spotted during my visit.

When you are hiking in this forest, please be aware of your surrounding as it’s not an easy track. It may be muddy and slippery during rainy days and be alert of falling trees.

For those who wish to explore the forest, Dr Ho from NSS said that they should move in small groups of two to four people at a time, while taking care to make as little noise as possible. He warns that the dangers come not so much from snakes or wild boars, but hornets. Today article

I hope when we visit the place, we will show care to the plantation and will not throw rubbish in the forest, keep clean and maintain the forest as it is.

Dover Forest

A beautiful forest in the heart of city, 33 ha site within Ulu Pandan.

The western half of the study area resides on Dover Forest, a secondary regrowth forest on abandoned
plantation land. From the 1920s to the 1940s, Dover Forest was part of a rubber plantation. It is estimated
that the rubber plantation was abandoned during World War II and was not re-established thereafter. In
the 1950s, low-density settlements were established within the forest, with sundry tree cultivation
developing in place of the rubber plantations. In the 1960s and 1970s… Study report here

One of the icons for this Dover forest is the Ficus virens tree, this tree is a nationally critically endangered species in Singapore.

The below photo is Ficus benjamina tree.

A total of 158 species has been recorded within the area covered by this survey. This included 82 birds, 8
mammals, 11 reptiles, 8 amphibians, 4 fish, 23 butterflies and 17 odonates (damselflies/dragonflies), as
well as 5 snail species. The diversity of all these groups is by no means exhaustive
and more species should occur with a longer period of the survey. Study report here

Mandai T15 Nature Trail

Little Guilin – Bukit Batok Town Park

Kranji Marshes

Kranji Marshes is home to a rich array of flora and fauna, including more than 170 species of birds, 54 species of butterflies and 33 species of dragonflies.
